The Soongsil Debate Square for the first semester in 2016 was held in front of Han Kyung-zic memorial hall on Thursdays at 1:30 pm. Pro and con debates and free discussions were made on various topics. "Are university MTs necessary", "Should students have exams without any supervisors", "Should state-authored history textbooks be repealed", "Should the military system be transferred from conscription to voluntary", "Should we be armed by nuclear weapons in terms of self-defence", "Where the capital should go in the Unified Korea".
Since the SDS was first held in the second semester in 2013 and since then the SDS has been a forum for debate in which students share their opinions about social issues. There is a podium for students in front of the hall where the representatives that are consisted of volunteers argue about the prepared subjects. After the formal pro and con debate is finished, the audience sets the chance to participate in the debate. The SDS sets a goal of raising creative practical talents and improving students' competence to communicate with the public. It covers all students in SSU and awards the best debater after all the debates is finished.
